Too soon!

Garden work is fast approaching; with the cold weather waning (psh, yeah, I wish!), it is time for us to start thinking about what we need to do. Obviously the yard needs tended to: weeds pulled, sticks picked up, garden plans lined off with twine, etc.

While I try to wrap my mind around all of it, there are things to do inside also. February 9th is the time to start some seeds indoors: Kohlrabi, Peppers, and Eggplant.

I’ve never had this delicious looking cabbage, but when I saw it I knew I had to have some! It is supposed to feel and taste like broccoli stems, or as my wife calls them, “tree trunks.” It was bred for it’s lateral stem growth and large round bottom. Descended from wild cabbage, it is a close relative to broccoli, brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, collard greens, and kale. They will do well planted with beets and onions; we need to keep them away from peppers, potatoes, strawberries, and tomatoes.
